Elaine
Elaine was my Dad's companion for the fourteen years after my Mom died. She was a faithful and gentle Sheltie, very caring of my Dad's 15 grandchildren. Elaine watched over my Dad for 24 hrs. until we found him after his fatal heart attack. She found a loving home for the next year with me, Elsa and Fury. She was an extension of my father and I always felt he was closer because Elaine was with us. In November it was time to send her back to my Dad.

Nicky
Nicky was my love. He was introduced to me and my family in 2005. We were informed he was rescued from an abusive home where he and his brother were found locked in a cage and there were signs they were beaten. When he arrived he was timid and non social to anyone even his canine brothers and sisters. His tail was always tucked away and loved the security of his create. It took a few weeks but he came around in a big way. Nicky mended well and bonded with me. He listened and felt the love we were all giving him. Simple commands were followed without hesitation. Having herding in his makeup he felt the need to round up and bring his brothers and sisters back into the house. Love was the key to bring this sad little boy back into the world and I am glad I had the chance. January 2011 Nicky was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer which doctors felt little hope of cure. They suggested we continue to monitor and let him live his life as he remained active and loving. In October the cancer took over impairing breathing and other vital functions. As much as it broke my heart, we all decided to let him rest crossing the Rainbow Bridge. I will always miss him he will never leave my heart.

Teddy
Teddy (07/16/2001-09/05/2011). Teddy came to us a rescue from LISSR with his best friend Cody on July 2, 2004. Both dogs had been abandoned in a vet/kennel, remaining kenneled for over 400 days. When we got them they were sweet and shy but needed lots of social skills. They were afraid of paper, plastic bags, table cloths, sheets, blankets and did not know how to climb stairs. They did not bark. Soon they became very curious and learned it was ok to explore and "smell" everything. Teddy developed several interests. He loved to chase the deer (only when he was inside the fence) and showed herding instincts. He wanted to play with the neighbors chickens and loved to be around babies. Teddy hated the beeper on the stove and would bark and growl. He liked to watch behind the gate for all passersby on the road. He loved his walks and liked to play hide and seek. Teddy had a beautiful black and sable coat. He loved to jump on the bed in the morning to get his head scratched. Teddy new all the swear words and did not like it if we used them, by giving us his paw and putting his head down. We called him St. Teddy. Teddy was diagnosed with Lymphoma in May 2011. He was given 2 months to live. We are sad for our loss but know that he had a happy full life with us as a Peterson and knew he was loved. We will miss our “Ted Ted”. Agnes and Dave

Jake
Jake our very first foster came to us in December of 2000! We quickly fell in love with him & decided to adopt. He was not into playing with toys but he did have one lamb for eleven years that he loved to sleep with. Jake loved to cuddle, a real sweetheart. So sweet that when we heard he was classified as viscous at the shelter we were shocked. We had eleven wonderful years with him. We believe he is now in heaven with grandma either laying under the foot of her recliner or waiting patiently for her to share pizza crust with him! Thank you LISSR for saving Jake & bringing him into our lives! Donna Loeven
